Steel Key Company Office

The Steel Key Company offices in Cosutanu operate out of a low, fortified stone building that looks almost like a bunker. In most cities, the Steel Key Company is principally focused on security and protection for hire, but in Cosutanu, their primary focus is in the collection of duties and taxes, as well as issuance of travel permits and collection of road and bridge tolls for both Dileniu and Bulostioi. Additionally, during harvest, or when large construction projects are underway, the amount of cash collected here can be significant, and all that money needs to be accounted for and transported safely to either Dileniu or Bulostioi. Consequently, the Steel Key Company office here features a large iron room that acts as both a vault and a counting room.

With the quarantining of the village, the town council granted the Steel Key Company new enforcement powers and responsibilities. Their soldati are now seconded to the Order of the Flaming Sword, with one of them on guard duty at each of the checkpoints, twenty-four hours a day supporting the Order in enforcing the quarantine.

The Steel Key Company office in Cosutanu was established in 1315 by Agripina Cazcu, an opportunistic mercenary who was working with the Order of the Flaming Sword to protect working crews building roads and aqueducts in the region. Recognizing the development potential and the strategic significance of the village, Agripina retired from the Order of the Flaming Sword and went into business for herself. By 1318, she successfully petitioned to establish a Steel Key Franchise and immediately benefitted from Cosutanu’s position on the border between the holdings of Dileniu and Bulostioi.
