The Kozetje College of Engineering
The Kozetje College of Engineering is a world renown academic institution focusing largely on the study of engineering, architecture and industry. The College was founded by the Golanicjan Royal Family in the year 552 of the Early Imperial Era for the express purpose of designing and and constructing a sea gate at Kozetje's Gap - the narrow strait that seperates the Golanicjan mainland from West Stone Island - a crossing of only 2km.
The transition between the Bay of Bones and Kovstepovi Bay was dangerous due to the sudden shifts in currents caused by the relative difference of depth between the two bays and the unpredictable nature of tides on Tear. Thus, the ambition to construct a gate came from the desire for a strategic deterrent, from a need to increase the safety of shipping, and also from a desire to generate revenue for the crown by levying fees and collecting duties for passage.
The sea gate took a hundred and fifty years to complete, and was finished in 702. Some say that by 700, seeing the success of the sea gate, King Joric of Tulosz scrapped plans to invade Golanicja, and set his sights instead on Ayodesh.
After the completion of the sea gate, the Kozetje College was formed into true academy, an institution independent from the Crown of Golancja, which benefitted from a percentage of the revenue generated by the sea gate, which ended up becoming far more than anyone had anticipated. By the fifteenth century, the Kozetje College of Engineering has become one of the most prestigious schools on all of Tear.
The College maintain an extremely close relationship with the Gatekeepers - the civil defense force that was formed to man and operate the sea gate. While the two organizations are technically separate, independent entities, the Great Families who manage them have been closely intertwined for centuries.

The Natural Calendar of Briunida was made official on 1 Ember the following year and was backdated to the Chartering of Briunida, 181 years previously, making 1 Ember Year 181 the first day under the new calendar.
