Lower Railhead

After crossing the crevasse and following the rail for another 20 meters or so as it descends further down underground, you eventually arrive at the railhead at the bottom of the tracks. Here are three railheads, each with a mining cart resting on them, surprisingly looking to be in quite good condition.

An inspection of the mine carts and the rails themselves reveals they are in very good condition here. Where the ones at the top have been exposed to the elements for at least a century, the ones here are in a dry environment with lots of elemental sulphur in the form of yellow dust. In this context, the sulphur slows corrosion of the iron mine carts. That said, this presence of elemental sulphur dust in the air may present a fire or explosive hazard.
