Mythmaster Core Rules

What Is Mythmaster?

Mythmaster is a fantasy role playing game where each player takes on the role of their own unique character, joining with the other players to undertake imaginary adventures. You can choose to be a bold warrior, exploring an underground dungeon full of monsters, traps and treasure. Or, if you prefer, you can be a powerful wizard, trekking across an entire continent on a quest to defeat an ancient evil, evading pursuers and avoiding enemy armies along the way. Or maybe you want to be a fast-talking pickpocket in a crowded medieval city, who steals, tricks and cons their way to the throne itself. All of these adventures and possible in Mythmaster. The characters you play and the adventures you can undertake are limited only by the imaginations of you and your fellow players. Whatever story you can dream of, Mythmaster will let you live it.

Mythmaster has no fixed length. You can play for an afternoon, or you can play for decades. A typical play session might last a few hours; you can think of it like an episode of a TV series. A series of play sessions, where the same players come together to continue the shared story of their characters and their adventures, may go on for weeks, or even years. This is sometimes called a Campaign, and you can think of it like a season of a TV series. Sometimes, players may play several Campaigns with the same characters; this is similar to the entire run of a TV series. Going further, players may choose to play different Campaigns with different characters, all taking place in the same imaginary universe, sometimes occurring consecutively, or sometimes spread out over generations or across centuries. This is like experiencing an entire cinematic universe, with all its heroes and history accumulating and developing as you play. The scope and scale of the stories you choose to play, and the universes that are created as you play them, is entirely up to you and your imagination.
