Description:

Wights are the undead corpses of those who were murdered, left for dead, or who succumbed in the wilderness, and who were not properly interred, and who have been made revenant by some evil force or curse. Perhaps they worshipped forbidden gods, perhaps they seek revenge against those who murdered them, or perhaps there is some latent evil force in the very land where they died, but whatever has animated them, they exhibit a profound hatred for all that lives. Often wights will be deformed and hideous; with some parts rotted or eaten away and other parts preserved by the elements. There are several different types of wight, and they vary by the terrain in which they met their end. Wights will attack anything living on sight, and will always fight until they are destroyed.

Special:

Wights are immune to poison and disease. They can be damaged by ordinary weapons, and Blessed weapons do +25% damage to them.

Regardless of type, wights tend to be ambush fighters. They prefer to lie in wait in the snow, muck, sand or water where they rest, and then attack with surprise. Those who attack from bog, swamp, muck or other watery terrain will typically attempt to grapple their opponents by performing an Entangle attack using their Unarmed Skill. After being grappled, each turn that the victim does not escape, these wights can roll a 21 Challenge against a helpless target to apply either Fast or Strong Unarmed damage. If the victim fails to escape, the wight will drag them at their Base Move until they are submerged, at which point they will be pulled under and begin to drown. Damage and effects of drowning are determined by the Director, but if they do not escape fairly quickly, they will certainly die.

Variants:

Bog Wight

Bog wights are the undead corpses of those who were slain or left to die in a peat bog, where their remains - and their desire for justice or revenge - were preserved in the spongey, oxygen poor muck. A bog wight resembles a malformed, misshapen person, distorted by the weight of centuries buried in the wet earth. Their skin is thick and leathery, and they are a uniform greyish brown colour. There are many rumors of individual bog wights haunting wetlands at the edges of villages, seeking revenge for their murders, committed many generations past.

Bog wights can burrow effortlessly underground in their bogs. They are highly flammable, and take +50% damage from fire. If a bog wight enters the burning state it will continue to burn until it is destroyed. While burning, any hit from a bog wight will also put the target in the burning state. Only total immersion in water will stop a bog wight from burning - immersion into a bog will not stop the burning.

Bog wights carry the terrible infectious disease known as Tallow Tears

Frost Wight

Frost wights are typically the risen corpses of lost mountaineers who succumbed to the elements and froze to death. After laying encased in ice or buried in snow - possibly for decades, centuries, or longer, they have risen to take their revenge against those who left them behind to perish in the unforgiving cold. Frost wights have pale skin, desiccated skin, blue at the edges, and encrusted in ice.

Frost wights can burrow effortlessly underground through snow (but not ice or rock). They are highly vulnerable to burn damage, and take +50% damage from fire.

Sand Wight

Sand wights are the corpses of lost desert travellers or soldiers who were left behind or who succumbed to the harsh desert elements, usually dying of dehydration. After being buried in shifting dunes for untld ages an uncovered sand wight will rise to claim the living, perhaps driven by an unslakable and eternal thirst. Sand wights are slight and dusty and their skin is dry and leathery - preserved by the desert environment.

Sand wights can burrow effortlessly underground through sand (but not rock). They are vulnerable to burn damage, and take +25% damage from fire.

Sea Wight

Sea wights are the undead corpses of sailors who met an unfortunate end at sea. After lying on the sea floor for years or even decades, their soggy, disintegrating bodies are often held together more by seaweed and barnacles than flesh. When an unsuspecting vessel sails over the site of their wreck, sea wights will float to the surface and climb aboard the passing vessel to inflict their heinous revenge. Sea wights attack in groups, with an entire undead crew bobbing up to the surface to surround their target. Once aboard, their aim is to murder the crew and passengers and to sink the ship.

Completely saturated with water, sea wights are immune to fire damage, but take +25% damage from shock based attacks.
