Description:

Fext are the animated corpses of soldiers whose lives were cut short by battle, and who remain tormented in undeath by the unfulfilled promises of their hopes and dreams. While in most cases, organized armies will recover and bury their dead properly, sometimes this is not possible. Perhaps the force was obliterated or routed, perhaps the terrain or weather made recovery impossible, or perhaps the fallen were conscripts, slaves, or mercenaries deemed unworthy. In any case, in undeath, fext remain eternally tormented, and seek only the destruction of the living.

Special:

Fext are immune to poison and disease. They can be damaged by ordinary weapons, and Blessed weapons do +25% damage to them.

Variants:

As fext are usually soldiers who fell in battle, they are most typically encounter on or near ancient battlefields or in ruins. While a few fext are probably not a serious threat to a group of seasoned adventurers, they can be encountered in large numbers, which can change the dynamic considerably.

Standard Fext

The standard fext is foot soldier with light armour and a sword. These are the most common of all fext, and the most likely to be encountered alone or in small groups.

Fext Archer

Fext archers are the least common of all fext, as archers are usually the most able to retreat when a battle turns bad, and thus least likely to be left behind. When they are encountered, they will almost always be accompanying standard fext or infantry.

Fext Cavalry

Fext cavalry are uncommon, but the kinds of battles that result to fields full of abandoned corpses often do not happen unless a cavalry division has been wiped out and the tide of the battle has turned significantly. Consequently, cavalry will often be present in any significant group of fext. Fext cavalry may, or may not be riding skeletal mounts.

Fext Infantry

Fext infantry are somewhat more skilled and specialized than standard fext, carrying swords, shields and spears, and brining a diversity of capablity into battle. In small groups, they will organize so that some can use their spears to anchor opponents and control their movement while others use sword and shield to fight in close. Combined with support from archers, if their are present, even a moderarely sized group of 12 to 16 fext can punch above their weight against smaller groups of powerful adventurers.
