Hippogryph
Select Subtype:
Description:
A hippogryph is a chimeric creature with talons for its forelegs, and the head and wings of an eagle, but with the torso and hind portion of horse. They are tend to live in high, mountainous regions, and avoid humanoids who have been known to hunt them in hopes of taming them as steeds. Similar to gryphons, pegasi, and other bird-winged creatures, hippogryphs are fast, and while they are shy and will tend to avoid confrontation, their great speed and sharp talons allow them to strike seemingly out of nowhere.
Hippogryphs can be trained to serve as flying mounts, and with dedicated training, can even potentially be trained to fly into mounted combat with thier riders. A hippogryph mount can carry 125 Bulk.
Variants:
Standard Hippogryph
Hippogryphs encountered in the wild will always be of the standard sort. In very rare cases, a standard hippogryph may be encountered as a mount, usually to someone extraordinarily wealthy and powerful.
War Hippogryph
With expert training, hippogryphs can be trained to fly into mounted combat. The enormous effort needed to fly while carrying a rider is the most they can manage, and they cannot also wear armour.
