Eoten
Description:
Eoten are giant, ambulatory tree people. They can live to be hundreds, or even thousands of years old, but they are extremely rare. Some argue they are not that rare at all, but rather they choose to spend most of their lives rooted and dormant - indistinguishable from ordinary trees. Others speculate that Eoten are actually just very old Spriggan who wandered off into the woods, put down roots, and became one with nature.
Eoten are the custodians and protectors of the wild forests. While they are typically non-interventionist when it comes to things like forest fires, or an imbalance in predators and prey, they have been known to intervene to protect or restore a natural balance - particularly when expansionist humanoids upset the natural harmony in a region. They prefer not to fight, and are generally passive. They are likely to attempt to use Suggestion and similar Spells to slowly convince intruding humanoids to stay away. But humanoids are industrious, and their intrusions can be rapid. Clearing a woodland, damming a river, or even introducing livestock into a new area can upset the balance enough to force an Eoten to take more direct action.
Special:
Eoten are not animals, and so are immune to most poison, diseases and venoms defined in this book, however they remain susceptible to these types of threats, as well as to infestations of vermin that can affect certain trees and plants. It may be up to the Director to define poisons, diseases and other infestations that can harm Eoten. Eoten take double damage from flame attacks.
Eoten are typically not trained fighters, but they are huge, and can do a lot of damage by swinging their enormous limbs, gorging with their sharp branches, or entangling and constricting with vines. When attempting a Constrict attack, the first attack must be an attempt to Entangle using the Effect Attack, after which, each turn that the victim does not escape, an Eoten can roll a 21 Challenge against a helpless target to apply either Fast or Strong Constrict damage.
