Spirit: Earth
Select Subtype:
Description:
Earth spirits are the living embodiment of the earth and the soil. They spend the majority of their existences deep underground, minding their own business. They perceive time on a geological scale, and thus are totally disinterested in mortal affairs. They can, however, be summoned and controlled by magical means, or brought forth by natural events that release enormous amounts of energy - such as avalanches or earthquakes.
Special:
Earth spirits are immune to all normal weapons, poison and disease, as well as to shock, frost and flame attacks. When in physical contact with earth, they regenerate their Health at 1/turn.
They are capable spell casters, but prefer to use their bludgeoning fists to knock their opponents down, and then pummel them into the ground. Terenoma can move through earth effortlessly, the way any flying creature moves through the air. If a Terenoma chooses to cast the Tremor Spell they pay only half the Concentration Cost (17 instead of 34).
Variants
Earth Spirit variants include Standard Earth Spirits, sometimes called Terenoma, and Lesser Earth Spirits, sometimes called Petri.
Terenoma
When brought to the surface - particularly if against their will - a Terenoma can become extremely agitated. Given their size and strength, an angry Terenoma is a terrible threat to anything around it.
If a Terenoma is destroyed too quickly - with the blow that takes it to 0 Health doing more than 1/3 of its total Health in damage, the sudden release of energy will spawn d3 Petri.
Petri
Petri, sometimes referred to incorrectly as rock gnomes, are the smaller, less powerful versions of their Terenoma cousins. Some suspect they are young Terenoma, but ‘young’ in this case may still be immeasurably ancient. Petri are encountered far more commonly than their larger cousins, not due to any interest in mortal affairs, but rather because they tend to delve less deeply in the earth; they are occasionally encountered in underground caves or mines, or are uncovered by rockslides, mudslides, or avalanches. Some believe that they may actually be everywhere; comprising a significant portion of the earth and rocks that surround us, but that they simply prefer to sit stationary in one spot for decades or even centuries. While they typically seem to avoid conflict, if summoned by magic, or brought about by the destruction of a Terenoma, they will be much more aggressive.
