Abyssal
Description:
Abyssals are demonic creatures of unspeakable power, born of equal parts chaos, fire and darkness. Enemies of order, abyssals seek only the obliteration of all life and any organizing structure. They obey no Infernal Prince or Princess, and they are as spiteful of the existence of Infernals as they are of anything else - though the most powerful Infernals have been known to capture and enslave abyssals, forcing them to war.
Seemingly not bound to the Infernal Planes, abyssals are rumored to dwell also in the deepest parts of the earth. Why they do not rise and destroy everything they see is a matter of great speculation and consternation; perhaps they are too tormented by hatred, perhaps they are biding their time, or perhaps they are pursuing some unknown agenda, and the end is much closer than any are aware. In any case, very few have ever seen an abyssal and lived to tell of it, and scholars are divided on whether these terrible beings are Infernals, or something else altogether.
Special:
Abyssals are immune to normal weapons, fire, poison and disease, though Blessed weapons do +25% damage to them. Their own weapons and armour are considered magical.
Abyssals can breathe fire and can expend a point of Resolve to spray a cone of flame over a 30 degree arc, to a range of 20 hexes. Anyone in the cone may attempt to dodge or block if they have a large shield. If damage from this breath attack overcomes protection, the target is automatically put in the burning state.
Additionally, abyssals radiate tremendous heat, and flammable materials within 5 hexes of them will immolate. Anyone within 2 hexes of an abyssal must roll a 21C using their Stability each turn or be put in the burning state. Their flaming weapons also automatically put anyone they strike in the burning state.
It is unclear if an abyssal can be killed or destroyed. While they are powerful spell casters, they tend to prefer brute force over magical trickery, and will typically use their abilities and weapons, supplemented with a few strategic spells, before using more powerful spells.
