Ascended

Description:

Sometimes, when a great hero departs the mortal realm, their god, or some Celestial Prince or Princess may choose to reward them for their bravery, heroism, selflessness, or some other service by saving them from oblivion and transforming them into an Ascended. The Ascended are mortals who have been elevated and transformed into semi-divine beings, and who maintain some semblance of their mortal form and powers, while being further imbued with powerful Celestial magic. Unlike other Celestials, the Ascended cannot climb the Celestial ranks, and this erasure of their ambition relieves them of the desires that can corrupt other Celestials. Combined with their gratitude and unwavering loyalty to whiter Celestial elevated them, they are a powerful stabilizing force in the Celestial realms. While typically not as powerful as Celestial Knights, the greatest of heroes can rival the power of Angels or even Arkangels when they ascend. The details listed above are for a generic Ascended - a typical Warrior. If the Director wishes for a specific hero from their universe to be represented as an Ascended, they should create that character specifically, and add the ability described here on top of that character.

Special:

Ascended are immune to normal weapons, poison and disease, though weapons Blessed by Infernal worshipping Priests do +25% damage to them. Their own weapons and armour are considered magical. Like other Celestials, Ascended emanate light from their bodies at will. This light cannot be used to attack or blind, but they are immune to the effects of darkness - magical or otherwise. While their loved ones continue to live, Ascended may freely Plane Shift to the mortal realm, as per the spell, provided they remain within the perception of the person they are visiting. When they leave, the visit will have been perceived as a dream. When all those who knew the Ascended in life are gone, they lose this special ability forever. The Ascended are not immortal, and they can be destroyed. They will also weaken and fade from existence as the legends of their deeds in life are forgotten. The greater the hero, the longer they will persist.
