Golem: Stone
Select Subtype:
Description:
Stone golems are extremely strong and massive, but also the most expensive and time consuming of to contruct of all the golems, as they must be hewn from rock before animating them. Unlike simple animated statues, which are temporarily animated, stone golem have been brought permanently 'to life', and they will work and serve their masters tirelessly, following their orders until the end of time.
Special:
Stone golems are immune to normal weapons and to shock damage, and take only half damage from fire and frost attacks. Additionally, as mindless automata, stone golems are immune to most magical effects including any spells or skills that affect the mind or the emotions, or any magic that drains or buffs Stats, Attributes or Derivatives. They are also immune to poison and disease and can see perfectly in total darkness.
Stone golems can be disabled using Dispel Magic and winning a Challenge against whatever Spell brought the Golem to life, however, they are not effected by the Decay Spell the way Clockwork creatures are.
Variants:
Stone golems are easily mistaken for statuary, and as such they are valued in the homes and on the grounds of the wealthy where they can serve as 'security art' - pleasing to look at but ready to respond when needed. They also make excellent and tireless labourers, and can be powerful addition to any military force, but due cost and time required to construct them, they are not typically assigned to such duties.
Standard Stone Golem
The standard stone golem stands about 2m in height. Able to stand immobile for a literal eternity and to pass as statuary in the homes and gardens of the wealthy, they make excellent guards.
Giant Stone Golem
Giant stone golems typically stand up to 3m in height and weigh up to a ton. As with other stone golems, the time and expense required to created giant stone golems is considerable, and they are normally only created by eccentrics to serve as estate security. While giant stone golems are a force to be reckoned with on a battlefield, the time required to have one constructed does not usually suit military planning timelines, and the costs involved are typically considered better invested in other large expenses, such as seige engines. Rarely, existing giant stone golems have been 'conscripted' from their owners by desperate military forces and armed for battle, where they are exceptionally effective.
Stone Golem Servant
Stone golem servants are the most common of all stone golems, but they remain rare nevertheless due to the cost and time required to make them. That said, they can literally last forever, and stone golem servants to wealthy nobel houses have been known to be passed down for centuries, serving generation after generation.
