Golem: Clay
Select Subtype:
Description:
Clay Golems are magically animated humanoids formed from clay by their creators and brought to life using the Golem spell. While they are among the weaker of the various animated creatures known as golems, they, and their wicker cousins are generally considered the socially acceptable - flesh golems are monstrosities, and iron and stone golems are just too dangerous to 'keep around the house', but clay and wicker golems are considered 'just right' in certain circles. They make good (exterior) guards and good field workers and general labourers. Clay golems are roughly formed masses of soft clay and should not be confused with their intricate sculpted and kiln-fired cousins, the terracotta golems.
Special:
Clay golems are immune to normal weapons, and take only half damage from Shock based attacks. Additionally, the malleable nature of their bodies mean they can regenerate damage to their Health at a rate of 1/turn.
As mindless automata, they are immune to many magical effects including any spells or skills that affect the mind or the emotions, or any magic that drains or buffs Stats, Attributes or Derivatives. They are similarly immune to any physiological effects such as poisoning or disease. They can see perfectly in total darkness.
Clay golems can be disabled using Dispel Magic and winning a Challenge against the spell that brought them to life, however, they are not effected by the Decay Spell the way Clockwork creatures are.
Variants:
Clay golems are generally used as field labourers, guards, or household servants. The ease of acquiring and working the materials required to build them means they are found in a range of different sizes.
Standard Clay Golem
The standard clay golem stands about 2m in height, they are powerful and tireless labourers who can perform repetitive tasks, endlessly. They are ideal for field work though they will also sometimes be used as guards to patrol the grounds of manors and estates. They will rarely be used indoors as they can make a terrible mess.
Giant Clay Golem
Giant clay golems are typically no more than 4m in height, as beyong this size, their malleable form tends to collapse under its own weight. Giant clay golems are normally only created to serve as military auxiliary, as they can be created relatively quickly from easily accessible materials - but beyond providing extra muscle to support an armed force, the range of useful applications for them is somewhat narrow. When supporting a military force, giant clay golems will be armed.
Clay Golem Servant
Clay golem servants are not particularly common, and certainly not as household servants as they make a considerable mess, and no one really wants their dinner plate or their bed sheets covered in clay. They are sometimes used in military encampments to support troops with minor tasks and light labour so soldiers can concentrate on fighting.
