Spider, Giant
Description:
Giant spiders are versatile, silent and deadly predators that live in a wide range of ecosystems from caves and dungeons, to woodlands and jungles. They typically surprise their prey, wrap them in a web, bite them to inject them with venom, and leave them to die. Over time, their necrotic poison ruptures blood vessels and liquifies organs and tissue, allowing the spider to suck up the victim's remains, leaving behind only a desiccated husk of dried skin fill with rattling bones - the eerie wind chimes that are often the only warning of a nearby nest.
Special:
In addition to attempting their bite attack, giant spiders can spray their sticky webbing to a range of 8 hexes. Anyone who does not Dodge is immediately put into the entangled state. As normally, the victim can attempt to escape each turn by making a 21 Challenge using Adaptability or the Escape skill. Giant spiders can choose to continue to apply webbing to anyone who is entangled, with each additional application imposing a (-1, -2, -3, -5, -8, -13, -21 etc) penalty to attempts to escape.
Once a victim is thoroughly entangled, the giant spider will pick up its victim and carry it away. With eight legs, any entangled humanoid sized target can be picked up and carried away at the spider's Base Move or Climb Move speed. Giant spider webbing is highly flammable, and if ignited, the webbing will burn, putting anyone entangled in it into the burning state. Burning will remove one application of webbing each turn, making it easier to escape in subsequent turns. Once an entangled victim escapes burning webbing, or it all burns away, they will remain in the burning state until they put the fire out as normal.
Giant spiders can see perfectly, even in total darkness.
