Camel
Select Subtype:
Description:
Camels are large, powerful and awkward, but also intelligent, and at times highly opinionated. When well trained, well cared for, and treated with respect, camels make excellent mounts and working animals. In desert environments, there is no match for a camel's endurance - while other animals are faster, the ability of a camel to maintain a steady pace will usually win out over the longer term.
Camels can also be to be trained for mounted combat. Camels can carry heavy loads up to 200 Bulk. A specialized pannier, fitted for a camel can compress 500 Bulk into a 400 Bulk load, which is then halved due to the camel's Strong Back perk, allowing them to carry much more than the base load.
Variants:
Standard Camel
Camels encountered in the wild will always be of the standard sort. Standard camels may also be encountered serving as standard mounts, or pack animals and are capable of bearing extemely heavy loads.
Draft Camels
Draft camels are very strong and endurant, making them suitable to general labour such as hauling loads to support construction, mining, logging, or merchant activities. Their ability to endure hot, dry environments is invaluable in the desert where humanoids are not well adapted to prolonged difficult labour.
War Camel
With expert training, Camels can be trained to ride into mounted combat. While they can wear armour, they are at greater risk of overheating in it, and so will only usually be encountered in armour during battle, or when battle is imminent.
