Description:

Elephants are massive, enormously powerful creatures that inhabit a wide range of temperate and tropical rainforests, forests, savannah and scrubland. They travel in herds, and are typically peaceful and not troubled by humanoids, but if threatened or angered, they can become violent and dangerous. Even a lone angry elephant is a serious threat to any humanoid, and a parade of them can level a village without much difficulty.

Elephants are very intelligent, and smart enough to be tamed, but they are eemingly too intelligent to be domesticated or bred in captivity. If captured while young, and properly trained and reared, elephants can be mounted and ridden into battle - with the largest able to bear platforms on their backs supporting multiple archers or even light artillery pieces. An armoured war elephant with a crew manning a scorpion and a pair archers with crossbows is a fearsome and devastating weapon.

Variants:

Elephants exist in the wild, but may also be used as work animals, or as mounts - including as specially trained mounts that can ride into mounted combat. An elephant can carry 350 Bulk.

Standard Elephants

Standard elephants may be encountered in the wild, but are also often used for transport or for labour. Standard elephants ridden as mounts can carry up to four passengers if properly equipped with specially designed tackle.

War Elephants

With expert training, elephants can learn to carry riders into combat. Because of their great size, they are usually used to support mutliple ranged attackers atop a firing platform. Raising a war elephant requires not only training it to have the Unfazeable perk, but also 'breaking' the elephant of its tendency to go Berserk.
