Bird, Messenger
Description:
Pigeons, or other trained messenger birds are used to send correspondence between pre-arranged destinations. Birds are shipped in cages from one city to another, so they may be given messages and allowed to return to their home. These birds represent no threat to anyone, and cannot meaningfully engage in combat. However, they may often be targeted for their precious cargo of information.
Special:
Messenger birds can reliably travel as far as 500km in a day - end even further given more time. They can only return to their home, however, and cannot be given directions or sent from their home to another destination. Their utility therefore relies on a ‘bird exchange infrastructure’, supported by cities that share an interest in communication.
