Bat
Description:
Ordinary bats, that range in size from as small as a mouse to the size of a large rat or squirrel. Individual bats are not much of a threat, but they are often encountered in groups of hundreds, particularly by those exploring caves or ruins, and a swarm of angry or scared bats can be a serious hazard. Most bats eat fruit, but some will bite and even attempt to drink blood. They are known to carry disease, and are considered problematic pests in most areas where they are common. They are prized by Shamans as pets and familiars and some bats are intelligent enough to be trained. Spells that allow the Caster to borrow a subject’s senses can enable the Caster to ‘see’ using a bat’s sonar echolocation.
Special:
Bats have sonar and are unaffected by total darkness. They can effectively see in 360 degrees, so they cannot be surprised by attacks from behind. Bat bites can lead to a disease known as Sweetblood Fever, a debilitating blood infection that causes swelling of the brain and potentially death.
