Ogre
Select Subtype:
Description:
Standing at over 3 meters in height, Ogres are large, powerful, and dim-witted. They are usually encountered alone, either in their caves or dens, or in remote wilderness areas. Occasionally, they will be drawn toward villages to raid for food - they are particularly fond of the ale made by villagers, and of the villagers themselves. Ogres eat everything the kill.
Special:
Ogres tend to live in underground caves, and are capable of seeing, even in total darkness. In battle, they are rage-fueled, and exceedingly difficult to bring down.
Variants:
Orges are rarely intelligent or sociable enough to organize into groups, and will only rarely be encountered with other orges except when they are in a mating pair.
Standard Ogre
Orges are best left undisturbed. They are always hungry and if made aware of the presence of anyone, they will generally come looking to make a meal of them.
War Ogre
Sometimes, organized armies or bands of raiding barbarians or even tribes of tuckers will capture and enslave ogres, training them to fight for their masters and pressing them into battle, unleashing them on their foes. These so-called War Ogres are better armed and equipped and are 'trained' to use their sheer rage and power to greater advantage than their free and 'wild' cousins. A tucker army with a half a dozen War Ogres in their service can quickly become a regional problem.
Ogre Magi
Very rarely an ogre is born with an unusually high intelligence. These orges sometimes come to acquire mystical knowledge- usually of the naturalist sort. These so-called ogre magi are both more intelligent and more social, and are in far better control of their emotions, but this virtually never results in them attempting to engage with society in any way. At best, an ogre magi may use its power to subjugate or intimidate a small humanoid population in a remote area, acting as a kind of cruel shamanic overlord and demanding food and service in exchange for its mercy.
Ogre Magi will almost always have a Totem constructured in their lair or den, giving them bonuses to certain skills or spells. They will also usually choose a Beast Form that gives them a mobility and disguise advantage in their environment, preferring to fight in their normal form.
