Description:

Stone giants live in the middle altitudes of inhospitable mountain ranges, where their preferred habitat keeps them in a narrow band just above and just below the tree line. Here they hunt and eat large animals like mammoth and moose, and also attack travellers - often by ambush in narrow mountain passes. Stone giants live in caves, often digging out large, expansive chambers and tunnels, and they rarely make their way into populated areas. They prefer to be left alone, but are extremely aggressive and dangerous if bothered.

Special:

Stone giants have thick, cracked, grey, scaly skin making them appear almost to be made of crumbling rock. This thick hard hide affords considerable protection.

Variants:

Due to the inhospitable terrain they call home and the scarcity of food and water, stone giants tend to live in small tribes rarely exceeding a dozen individuals in an extended family unit.

Adult

Adult stone giants can reach 5 meters in height. They are the most commonly encountered type of stone giant, and are the sort usually responsible for attacks on travellers. Normally two or three adult stone giants are enough to overwhelm and pillage an entire caravan.

Juvenile

Juvenile stone giants are rarely encountered outside of their caves as they are not normally needed to reinforce raiding parties, which are strong enough with only a couple of adults.

Elder

Unlike other types of giants, stone giants are not generally led by warlike leaders. As they tend to live in family units, the oldest of them become elders who advise the adults and largely rest in their caves with the juveniles. While elder stone giants remain extremely strong and powerful, the fighting and raiding is left to the adults and the maintenance and labour of living is left to the juveniles.
