Giant: Frost
Select Subtype:
Description:
Sworn enemies of the fire giants, and resentful of most organized human societies, the cruel frost giants tend to live in isolated and frozen regions, far from civilization. Frost giants are the most social of giants, tending to live in communities of a few families, and sometimes expanding to include dozens of individuals.
They are industrious and can construct massive fortress out of ice that they harvest from glaciers or make themselves by pumping water mechanically and allowing it to freeze into blocks, or using magic to shape it. They are most often encountered in remote areas when a bad winter allows them to comfortably wander into expanding humanoid frontiers, and they will raid mercilessly if a bad season allows them to reach humanoid settlements. Frost giants are up to 6m tall.
Special:
Frost giants are immune to frost and ice, magical or otherwise, and will not suffer adverse effects from extreme cold. They are doubly susceptible to heat and flame, and will suffer twice the loss of Stamina in hot environments, and take double damage from flame attacks.
Frost giants are the only type of giant that keeps animals. They are known to raise cattle and even mammoths to provide milk and meat, they often keep aisipaerds, sabre cats and vargrs as pets and to aid in the hunt.
Variants:
Frost giants have pale blue skin the color of pure glacier ice. Their hair is white, and they often braid their hair and their beards, with the patterns of the weave seemingly related to their rank or station.
Adult
Adult frost giants reach up to 6 meters in height. Adult frost giants are the most commonly encountered, either ranging across the frozen wilds in search of food or resources, or as part of fearsome raiding parties that can wipe out entire towns in minutes. They are fierce combatants, and will use a combination of weapons and spells to overwhelm their enemies.
Juvenile
Juvenile frost giants are not yet full grown, standing only 4 to 5 meters in height. These are the most rarely encountered, as they will normally remain within the immediate region of the ice caves, villages or fortress of their kin. If a juvenile is encountered, there is almost sure to be an adult close by.
Jarl
Frost giant jarls are the battle-hardened champions who have risen to lead their communities. Small tribes of frost giants will normally have a single jarl as a leader, but in larger frost giant communities there may be a hierarchy of jarls or a council of them who rule collectively. Regardless, any frost giant who is called jarl will be a formidable, fearsome warrior.
